Vector vs. Raster

Vectors are graphics defined by numbers and made up of lines which are connected by points. For this reason, vector graphics are easily scalable without losing quality.

Raster graphics are represented by pixels; areas that store visual information. Enlarging causes each pixel to become larger, consequently creating a pixelated effect.

Raster graphics enable more detail, but lose quality if resized larger than the original.
